depends on the type of metronome you own. most anymore are digital and have a spot for headphones/earbuds.... this is how i use mine... i grab my guitar and put on the headphones / metronome and try different BPS (beats per second) while i play..this will take a couple of tries for me but i find it and leave it... but i keep the headphones on and sit down at the kit....use the metronome to tempo on my closed high hat and then "SNAP" ; the snare...to cue the guitar. (or whatever is opening the song) .....in the recording....( i have on occasion stayed on a closed high hat to keep it simple) and then continue by laying in a scratch drum track IN TIME.. I keep that drum track simple, as straight a pocket as i am able... then i play the guitar to that drum track....and then add any others i feel like adding.... after im done i lay over the drum track... kjeep that metronome and headphones ON while you're on that kit....i promise if you do you'll have an exceptionally tempo'd track.....GL
I would do drums first then guitar since you never used one.. your just going to get confused... pretty much your going to play to the tempo of metronome its easier on the drums then guitar if never used one...but you can always record with out it to...
