Progressive rock and psychedelic rock in the late 60s and 70s took a turn from the occasional blues-rock format that was present in almost all rock at that time. Also other 70s rock genres like arena rock, glam rock, and punk rock steered away from the bluesy sound of 60s rock. Metal is also another victim that steered clear of blues influences. Originally starting as a blues-infested genre from the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple... It slowly changed in the late 70s early 80s with bands like Judas Priest, Mot?rhead, and Iron Maiden taking over the metal scene and genre and having less of that blues sound. Thrash metal like Metallica and Megadeth has even fewer blues influences in them. The neo-classical shred craze of the 80s stirred metal into other genres and less of blues. Slayer, Death, Pantera being the more extreme of 80s and 90s metal took it to the next level. By the time the 90s arrived, the blues was almost never present in rock music anymore.
