Feel sick after eating bread?

Posted at: 2014-06-09
I've recently been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. My main symptom is constipation (before I started taking laxatives, I would go maybe once every third day) with very bad, painful bloating. But occasionally I get bad diarrhea and nausea. I started taking laxatives about three months ago, and I definitely am a lot less constipated than before, although I still experience constipation and bloating every few days. But now that I actually have times when I don't feel sick, I am starting to realize that bread makes me feel incredibly sick. Every single time I eat bread, my stomach begins to churn within a few hours. I become constipated, then eventually that turns into diarrhea. I've been tested for celiac disease and that came back negative. Could there be something I am allergic to in bread that would be causing this? I haven't been able to connect these symptoms to anything other than bread, but then again I haven't really tried too hard. I'm a college student, and I am required to eat at the dining hall, so bread is pretty difficult to avoid. Any ideas? Thanks!
IBS, constipation and the runs often occur together. Constipation is often due to an unhealthy diet with insufficient fiber. Most people don't eat enough fiber. Wheat germ, wheat bran, Chia seeds and Psyllium husks are very high fiber foods and there is also a lot of fiber in fruit and vegetables. Both constipation and IBS as well as diarrhea can be cured with liquid chlorophyll as in a web search for "liquid chlorophyll" + constipation + ibs. Other natural ways to relieve constipation are covered in a web search for "natural ways to relieve constipation".
