Find the vertex and x-intercept(s) of the function given below. y=x^2+2x+6 A.Vertex: (0,6); Intercepts: x = -2, 6 B.Vertex: (1,5); Intercepts: none C.Vertex: (-2,6); Intercepts: x = 1, 6 D.Vertex: (-1,5); Intercepts: none
If y = ax^2 + bx + c, the x coordinate of the vertex is x = -b / (2a) so x = -2 / (2?1) = -2/2 = -1 so you already know it's answer D since that's the only one with x = -1 for the vertex. (Since 5 is as low as the graph goes, it will never hit the x axis so there are no x intercepts.)
