Mostly trench warfare. Mustard gas, tanks, artillery, land mines, etc. It was hideous.
Mostly in trench warfare. A lot of military generals on both sides at the time were still infected with 19th century thinking despite the technology they could have used to reduce casualties. Poison gas was also used against the enemy's troops feeling that it would have obliterate as much of the enemy's force, thus reducing the lives of their own side. The use of poison gas didn't change the outcome of the battle actually.
