The color that is achieved depends on the current color of the hair, whether natural or artificial, the degree the cuticle opens, the length of time the dye is left in the hair, the amount of dye retained when the cuticle closes. The reason the creme rinse that comes in the box is applied without shampooing is to close the cuticle and seal in the color; shampoo opens the cuticle. Will have to experiment with different colors, varying times left in the hair. That is one reason a strand test is recommended. Some box dyes have examples of the color achieved starting from different natural colors.
