1) How many ways can Gary, Cayla, and Pinak finish a bicycling race in first, second, and third place? 2) Antonio has a CD-player that holds six CDs. He puts six different CDs in the player and the CD player randomly plays a song from any of the CDs. What is the probability that the CD player will play the first song from the first CD and the first song from the sixth CD? 3) The yearbook committee is deciding on the order to place 7 club pages. In how many ways can the committee order the pages if the yearbook club comes last? I know I will not ask any more questions unless necessary. These were sample practice test questions. My friend said I got them wrong, so could someone answer these for me and if you want to, please explain? Thanks!!! All help is appreciated!
1. gcp, gpc, cgp, cpg, pgc, pcg, so 6. Permutation of 3 = 3*2. 2. Depends on number of songs on each CD. If it only plays the first song, and the choices are independent, then 1/6*1/6. Otherwise, 1/6*1/5 if it will not repeat the song just played. Otherwise you have to know how many songs on each CD. 3. Permutations. Sind the 7th page is always last, the first 6 are permutated. 6*5*4*3*2=720 possible ways.
