Percentages, Fractions, Salary Problem?

I've been trying to solve this problem below and I know my answer is incorrect. PROBLEM: Of Maria's total salary, goes to taxes and of what remains goes to food, rent, and bills. If she is left with $300 each month, what is her total monthly salary? My Work: I feel that 87% or 13/15 of the salary is lost leaving $300. And then if $300 is left over then that's 13% of her salary. So .13n=300 and n=$2,307.69. I think I'm not reading the problem correctly or I'm just not understanding what it's asking for. Thanks, George
You actually left out what percentage of Maria's salary goes to taxes, food, rent , and bills in your question! However, I assume the number is 87% based on the additional data. You are right that 13% = $300 of the total, so your equation .13n = 300 is correct. n = $2307.69 If you are supposed to submit answers online, it could be the question is asking you to round to the nearest dollar or dime. It could be that you read the question wrong or you wrote a number down wrong. Double check the question and post again!
