What Medical Career should I choose?

Posted at: 2014-06-09
Hi! I'm a junior in high school and the year is coming to an end and I still don't know what I want to major in for college. I am already for certain that I want to go into the medical field, and at first I wanted to go into Anesthesiology, but the years it takes to get the degree you need to become an anesthesiologist are tedious and I don't think I'm patient enough to wait until I'm 30 to become what I want. This may seem shallow to a lot of people but I don't want to base my college life on what I'm happy on doing because, for example, I am very into visual art-related things. However, let's face it, painting for 12 hours a day will not bring food to the table neither will it bring a bright future for my future family. I want a high-paying career that does not take 12 years to achieve and will still guarantee me at least a somewhat easy-going life. So in a nutshell, what medical careers pay well but does not take a very long amount of time to earn its degree? 8 or so years of college is the most that I can go. I just don't think my parents can continue to support me for any longer than that even if they wish to do so, even with things like financial aids and grants, and I don't think ramen soup should run through my veins for more than that long. Please provide me an annual salary of the career. Thank you so much.
MD is 8 years of college. anesthesiology residency is 4 years and paid - I think average is like $50k/year.
