I have two blue dwarf gouramis and I'm having trouble figuring out the gender of one of them. I figure one is male, he has the pointy end to his dorsal fin. The other one however is providing me some trouble. It has the rounded fin that supposedly females have, however (s)he is just as bright and shiny as the other one. It has a little bit of a pointy tip, but not nearly to the degree of the other one, is it just a younger fish maybe? They're both about the same size, (s)he's maybe a little smaller than the other one.
I always assumed tge females are much less colourful, he is likely just immature at the moment
I believe it is male, a females colors would be way less bright. You're probably right it's probably just a young fish. Although it looks like it might also be fin nipping, his fins look a little ragety. Do you have any fin nippers in the tank? There is a good chance it may also be the other gourami males are very territorial.
