What should I've done about my coworker?

Posted at: 2014-06-09
There was a get well soon card being passed around today for someone who retired months ago and just had surgery. My coworker tells me he crossed my name of the list of those who already signed. He says 'I crossed your name off. It is a card for someone who retired shortly after you started - so you wouldnt know him'. What should I've done in this situation? I should've fired back and said 'I think I can decide for myself if I want to sign a card or not'.
I would of been like "Oh you mean Paul?! He was so nice to me when I first started working here! We had lunch a few times and he really made me feel welcomed."
In a way, it sounds like this person thinks he is the card police. He chooses who gets to sign and who doesn't. I think he should have just gone around and asked if you and other unknown people would like to sign the card. I wouldn't confront him. He sounds like a control freak, and kiss up anyway.
your coworker was rude, not much you can do about it
