Thinking about moving to Texas, what's it like?

Hi there! My husband and I are thinking about moving to Texas from the Seattle, WA area. He works insurance and has the opportunity to be making triple what he does here. We have no family down there. We'd like a smallish town outside of a big city (like where we are now....8,000 people). What's it like down there? And what's the best area to be? Your thoughts are appreciated!!!!
Texas is a huge state and what it is like would depend on where you go. The cost of living in Texas tends to be lower than in many other parts of the country, especially in south Texas, but in south Texas you will have border issues. Dallas and San Antonio are both beautiful cities, but big, so you would have to deal with big city life and traffic. But Texas also has huge wide open spaces, and lots of small towns like you are looking for. One town you might want to consider is Corpus Christi. That area is beautiful, has beaches and ocean and a lot to offer. Get more information here.
Texas is great, but aside from that, how can you describe, in 25 words or less, what a state that big is like? If I asked you what Washington is like, would you tell me it was like Seattle, or like Yakima, or like Port Angeles, or like Whidbey Island? Texas is even bigger and has just as much if not more variety. If I were you, I'd take a week, fly down, rent a car, and spend the week driving around looking at it. A week is barely enough to get an idea what the different parts are like..
