Novelty shops are just like regular stores only they have "x-rated" (actually there is no legal age limit to purchase sex toys, just the movies) items. Your infant can't read the words or comprehend the pictures on the boxes and displays so I don't see why it would be an issue.
Many times, "novelty shops" also sell sex toys (but not always), and they sell other "novelty" or party items as well. But any sex toys on display in the main part of the store are pretty innoculous. If, as you say, you have been to a "sex shop" in the past, then I do not understand your hesitancy in taking an infant into one. If you have been to a "sex shop", then you know that the XXX-rated sex toys are on display in a separate room in the shop, not in the general public area.
