Is it possible to self teach guitar?

I have no experience whatsoever, hell I don't even have a guitar yet, but I just don't know if I could? I don't understand notes or chords or whatever they're called, I barely know anything about it, there's no chance of me getting lessons, I'm 15, and my mom doesn't think I'd stick with it, even though it's all I wanna do as a hobby right now, and she said she wont get me any lessons until I prove I will stick with it, despite being in another hobby for 8 years, she actually laughed at me the first time I said I wanted to learn, but still, no professional lessons are gonna happen anytime soon. My cousins husband taught himself and hes really good, so I think it's possible, but I just feel like there's so much to learn and it'll be impossible for me?
Of course it's possible! You can do anything you set your mind to! My dad was a very successful, self-taught musician. You can find some nice tutorials for learning the basics on YouTube. Wishing you the best of luck! (:
my advice is to get a good book to help you. I started off with hal leonard's books and the songs are really simple but that is the only way to really learn. then you can move on to the rock shop books, but if you go to a guitar store to get your guitar an employee can help you find the right book. you don't need to know how to read music either but it sure helps! maybe if you can you should take one or 2 lessons just to learn the very basics, especially if you are not particularly musically inclined but it is definitely possible with lots of hard work and dedication! good luck :)
