There is no standardised scale. Teaching assistant rates may be set by the local education authority, or may not be. Many teaching asistants are paid pro rata: that is, they only receive payment for the hours they work rather than the full equivalent annual salary. Many only receive a 'retainer' during the holidays, not their normal weekly amount and some do not even receive this. How much you get depends entirely on how many hours you work, and on what the school (or local authority) considers to be the appropriate rate of pay for your qualifications. If you work a full 23.5 hour week you might be looking at around 10 - 14000 per annum (pro rata). Jobs in London will pay a little more than elsewhere to counter the higher cost of living. Do the course by all means, but then decide whether you can actually live on what you can earn. It's not a job which pays enough to support an individual living alone.
