What is the verb for playing music in Japanese?

What is the verb for "to play music" in Japanese, in the sense that you are playing recorded music? I am doing it for homework, and the sentence I'm trying to translate is: They were playing fun music, therefore, we danced and had a good time. e.g. We danced and had a good time, because they were playing fun music. My original translation was: tanoshii ongaku o saisei shiteita kara, watashitachi wa odotte asonda. My sensei changed saisei to ensou, but it was not a live performance so I am trying to find the right verb. I am not looking for verbs like, hiku (to play a stringed instrument), fuku (to play a wind instrument), tataku (to play a percusion instrument), or ensou suru (to do a performance).
The correct verb is Tagaskui, I spent forty years teaching Japanese tradition pan piping, and I don't know what anyone else is talking about
