Whenever i try to open installers that must make temp files i either get a message that says "Setup was unable to create the directory "C:\Users\(my user)\AppData\Local\Temp\(tmp file name)". Error 5: Access is denied." or i get the message that says "Error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid." My account is an administrator account, ive tried using the "Run as Administrator" button and ive tried switching to a standard account, running the file in compatability mode, and restarting my computer but nothing will work! Please help!
open any windows explorer window (windows button + e) in the navigation bar at the top, click it and select all, delete it, and type: %temp% click enter. go up one directory (alt + up-arrow key). you should see the "temp" folder in this directory. right click the temp folder, go to properties. go to the security tab, click the edit button. for all the users on the list, check the "full access" box for them all, then click ok or apply. then click ok/apply on the other window aswell. you may get some pop-up error messages (may be a lot). just spam the enter or space button until it stops. this will fix your problem. the problem was you somehow lost permission to your temp folder, which is needed for many things.
