My co-workers did an informal gathering at a restaurant. I told them I will come later and I had a bunch of work to do. Something unexpected happened and I had tons of more work to do so I could not make. I tried to call, but I wrote the host's phone number down (or she didn't give the number to me correctly) and I don't have anyone else's phone number. They were very staunched about me getting there, but I was tied down with extra work. I feel really really really bad. If I try to explain the situation, I feel that they would not believe me. It pains me that I have to go to work tomorrow and awkwardly face them. How should lightened the situation?
Take them doughnuts or cake or something, and tell them what happened. Remember you can't blame having the wrong phone number on her or she'll be defensive. And apologize.
