Online Games/Free Games on the App Store to Help Me Prepare for X-Box Games?

Ok, so, I am a 16 year old boy and have never played a video game. I mean, yeah, I played halo a couple times before but it was only a couple times and like five or six years ago, and I SUCKED because it was my first time playing. Well, all my friends play video games and they ask me if I want to play with them, but I say no because I don't want them to know how bad I suck and embarrass myself, so we end up doing other things. Well, I'm done being different and I want to be able to have fun doing what they love: video games. However, since I don't want to embarrass myself, I want to be able to practice before I do so, but I don't own a game system since my parents don't allow me to play video games (thus the reason I've never played before and suck) but i have a computer and an iPod touch. Is there any free online games or free apps on the app store that i could play to help me practice for Halo and Call of Duty? Those are the games my friends play (besides Assassins Creed, Injustice, and Red Dead).
There isnt really anything but a console game that can help you get better at a console game, but if you really want an alternate option some computer games can help introduce you to the concept, try playing steam games such as team fortress 2 and stuff like that
Just play the game and you'll get better at it, it is very rare to find a 16 year old boy who never plays video game that much, I've been a serious gamer since 5 but I played my first game at 3, that was Counter-Strike and to be honest, I've never own a Xbox 360 or PS3 and I'm getting one in June and I know that's pretty late but I wanted to try some console exclusive games. Keep playing and playing Halo and Call of Duty and you'll get better at it each day.
